METRO GALLERY OPENS TWO SOLO EXHIBITS:
CORRIE GREGORY: TALES FROM THE ROOT CELLAR
SONIA ROMERO: WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES
November 7- December 2 2006

LOS ANGELES, CA – Metro Gallery celebrates the opening of two solo
shows: Sonia Romero’s I Close My Eyes and Corrie Gregory’s Tales from the Root Cellar. Both shows were inspired by the recollection of the artist’s childhood memories, nostalgic collectables, and life experiences. The artists demonstrate a passion for storytelling, exploring dark places through tales and fantasy. Romero and Gregory build stories by carefully choosing familiar elements and reinventing them into magic or mystique. These complementary collections unfold intensely personal and evocative stories that engage the viewer into their world of rich and quirky imagery. The exhibit will run from Tuesday, November 7, 2006 to December 2, 2006.

About the Artist
Corrie Gregory's paintings explore the definitions and double meaning of words. Her paintings contain her metaphoric commentaries on life, from which viewers create their own interpretations. The oil paintings are completed on wood, dura-lar or collected paper.

After graduating in 1991 with a BFA from Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, Gregory embarked on a series of work experiences that added to her creative being.

She worked as assistant to the Arts Editor at the LA Weekly, and created menu and display icons with renowned architect Josh Schweitzer (Schweitzer Bim Architecture). Gregory has shown her art in numerous galleries and exhibited in both group and solo shows throughout Los Angeles. Her illustrations have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Houston Press and the LA Weekly
