“Seeing Stars”
Corrie Gregory
January 10, 2015 - February 15, 2015

Fifth Floor Gallery is pleased to announce, Seeing Stars, a new body of drawings and paintings by Los Angeles based artist Corrie Gregory. Creating characters that are evocative of old children's fables, Gregory's unique eye and technical execution is at times as unsettling as it is familiar. Her process of using technical rendering while leaving herself open to chance allows her to explore this body's similar subjects over and over, creating a narrative in the subtlety of the differences. The lackadaisical expressions and repetitive motifs begin to feel like the cyclical nature of a recurring dream, always changing and yet somehow the same. Painting on found objects such as vintage medical ephemera or old notebook paper also evokes a strange sense of nostalgia and can't help but leave the viewer somewhat dazzled or entrapped, as if themselves seeing stars.

Corrie Gregory earned her BFA from Otis College of Art & Design in 1991. Recent exhibitions in Los Angeles include shows at The Nomad Gallery and Flower Pepper Gallery.
