Cuttings
I have been collecting vintage greetings cards since the early 1990s looking at them as reference and inspiration, but very rarely cutting them and using them in collage. I decided it was time to take some of these 'precious" cards and use them. I started sorting, making a pile of some of the my favorite cards, and then I started to cut.
The cut out pieces became the starting point and I drew around it, each mark being permanent, no erasing or changes. I used 5.5 inches x 7 inches dura-lar paper for each piece, so that the scale was consistent with greeting card size. These pieces were for fun, and the parameters streamlined the process of making the work. I was really pleased how they turned out. Many of these pieces inspired larger paintings.
